Story About Park School of Dance

Our Schools History

The founder of Park School of Dance was Ken Park who started to teach in The British Legion Hall in Shiremoor and from there the dance school went from strength to strength and needed to move were  Ken then obtained premises in the Bigg Market Newcastle before again moving in 1973 to an old cinema in Pelaw, this was where The Broadway Ballroom was born

Ken was a regular well respected adjudicator at the British Dance Championships held  in Blackpool, he was also well known as Chairman of adjudicators on the BBC’s hit show Come Dancing

Ken then met Elaine Hall who became his wife and together they entered and won many inventive dance competitions, some dances are still used today including Engagement Waltz and Tango Tarquilla

Ken trained many pupils including his son Darren Park who won many major titles including Youth, Amateur and Professional British Championships. Ken also trained his daughter Lisa Park and her partner Samantha Allan

Ken's Passing

Ken passed away in 1985 and Elaine took on responsibility of keeping up his good work and his younger son Chris Park then became Junior and Youth British Champion. Elaine then added Ballet and Tap to the dance school. This proved very successful and brought many new pupils to the school

Welcoming Sam

Samantha started to teach in the school after her Junior career at the age of 16. Samantha was also Elaine’s right-hand girl, giving full support in every way possible to Elaine and the school

A New beginning

In December 2016 Elaine decided due to family commitments with her Mum and Husband that she would retire and hand the school over to Samantha and her daughter Georgia and so the story continues ………..
